JAKARTA, April 11 (Reuters) - The rematch of an Indonesian soccer game that ended in one of the world's worst stadium stampedes last year began on Tuesday night with no spectators present, officials said. Fierce rivals Persebaya and Arema FC last met in October 2022, when their match ended in a crush in which 135 people were killed. Many died as they fled for the exits after police fired tear gas into the crowd - a crowd control measure banned by world soccer's governing body FIFA. "The match is without spectators, according to the permit issued by police," Persebaya said on its Instagram account. Tuesday's Persebaya-Arema FC match was supposed to take place in early March but was postponed by police due to persistent concerns over fan rivalries and crowd control issues.

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 17 (Reuters) - Rescue teams searching for survivors from a landslide that tore though a campsite in Malaysia recovered the bodies of a woman and two children on Saturday, officials said, raising the death toll to 24. The landslide in Batang Kali, a popular hilly area about 50 km (30 miles) north of Kuala Lumpur, flattened the unlicensed campsite early on Friday while people slept in their tents. Of the 94 people caught in the slide, 61 were safe and nine still missing, according to the Selangor state fire and rescue department. Search and rescue operations resumed for a second day earlier on Saturday, after a halt overnight due to heavy rains. Survivors are in stable condition and will also receive trauma counselling, said Health Minister Zaliha Mustafa.

KCIC has said the project is facing a cost overrun of about $2 billion, raising the estimated total cost to 113 trillion rupiah ($7.36 billion). KCIC's President Director Dwiyana Slamet Riyadi confirmed the discrepancy in cost calculations, saying negotiations are underway to resolve it. Dwiyana said discussions were ongoing as to whether Chinese President Xi Jinping may witness a trial run of the rail project when he visits the Southeast Asian country next month for the G20 leaders' summit.
